Michael Jackson - Billie Jean | Singapore Birthday Show (Aug. 29th, 1993) Updated Version

INFO: Michael Jackson performing ‘Billie Jean’ in Singapore at the Singapore National Stadium for a sold out venue on August 29th, 1993 (his birthday). Michael also performed for another sold out audience in Singapore on September 1st, with an audience of 94.000 people at both concerts collectively (47.000 each show) Footage at: 1:17, 3:20, 3:35, 4:09 (Unsure if 3:20 is the correct placement of that clip.) PICTURE USED: Photo is from one of the Taipei shows, the shows right after Singapore. THOUGHTS: I absolutely love Michael’s vocals here. This is one of my favorite vocal performances of Billie Jean. In general this show has great vocals. I really wanted to see video of this performance, and here we go, 1min is better than nothing. Interesting that Michael wears a circle necked t-shirt here PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS: I really love how he prioritizes vocals in the first section of the song. He clearly doesn’t do a move on the normal “as she caused a scene” kick section, he just sings instead. The microphone stand is still in the middle of the stage before the first pre-chorus, which could imply MJ has been standing by the mic stand longer than usual. I’m pretty sure you can hear Michael say “hoh” during the intro dance at 0:25, 0:27 and also at 0:29, which implies 2 options; 1. (Most likely) he’s doing the choreography with the mic in hand 2. he’s not during the choreography at all and is just standing by the mic stand until 0:32 where the audience goes wild, because he then dances. The moonwalk is really, really good. Like wow one of the smoothest on the tour, if I may be so bold. I love how he starts the pre-moonwalk stance without bending his knees, just like in Tel Aviv (09.21.). That must just be how he altered the 1993 pre-moonwalk stance until sometime around the Buenos Aires shows. Clearly Michael is going through a lot of mental warfare and it affects how he performs (and it’s really interesting to see), only in September does Michael start finding his real groove again, it seems.
