HIKING MALAYSIA: Gunung Pulai - A great way to escape Singapore for a day!
Richard hops across the border from Singapore with SG Trek into Malaysia’s Johor State to hike up the small, but rewarding Gunung Pulai (654m). You can now buy prints of some of my best photos on the Website: https://www.asiahikelopedia.com/merch #Hiking #trekking #Malaysia #Gunungpulai #Pulai #Johor # #mountains #jungle #thetrailsoflife The Trail At just 654m, Gunung Pulai makes a leisurely day trek that is suitable for all ages. The trail is relatively easy, although there are a couple of steep sections. The clay soil is generally fine, but can become a little treacherous when wet. There is a communications installation at the summit so the hike finishes around 30m below the peak. For those who don’t fancy a jungle walk, there is a service road that also leads to the top. Hiking boots are recommended, but running shoes would also be ok in fine weather. Travel Logistics From Singapore the trailhead is around a 60-minute drive from JB Sentral (depending on traffic) once you have navigated the Woodlands border crossing. Getting to the trailhead by public transport is also possible. You can catch a number of buses from JB Sentral (BET1, 777B, 7B) to Kulai and then hop in a taxi or Grab for the short ride to the trailhead. Grab (the Asian Uber) is very cheap in Malaysia. Getting back is more of a problem, although it is possible to arrange a pickup with your Grab driver. There are some cafes, restaurants, parking and basic toilet facilities at the trailhead. You do not need a permit to climb Gunung Pulai, but it is advisable to go with someone with experience as the trail is not clearly marked in some places. I made the trip with Singapore-based travel agent SG Trek, who organised everything including transport and guides. Drones There are no known restrictions on the use of drones around Gunung Pulai, although tree cover limits the number of places where it is practical to fly.
