Navajo PHRASE of the Day: "My Stomach is About to Explode!!!"
One of my YouTube subscribers had asked me to post a video on how to say this phrase in Navajo: "I'm so full my stomach is about to explode." Every now and then I will fulfill a subscriber's request and this is my video response. To say, "I'm so full my stomach is about to explode," you would say, "T'óó wáhádzoh ádei'eeshdą́ą́' shibidę́ę k'adę́ę diildoh." The breakdown: T'óó wáhádzoh: very much (a lot) Ádei'eeshdą́ą́': I ate a lot Shibidę́ę: my stomach (that was) K'adę́ę: is about to Diildoh: explode (pop) Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and in honor of full stomachs, I figured this video would be appropriate. This video is a reminder that the Navajo language is very much alive and in use. Though it is fun to learn fun phrases such as this, I also included other ways to say "I am full" in Navajo: Ádei'eeshdą́ą́': I'm full or I over-ate (past tense) Shidiiłch'ee': I'm full (I can't eat anymore) Biyaa niséłt'į': I ate (a lot). This literally means "I hosed it off underneath." Łikango ííyą́ą́': I ate really good Nániichaad: I'm full Wáadzoh nániichaad: I'm very full Doo choho'íígóó nániichaad: I'm very, very full! It is also very important to know if someone is asking if you're full, so here are the questions when being asked, "Are you full?" or "Did you eat good?:" Ádei'íínídą́ą́'ísh?: Did you eat a lot? Łikangoósh 'ííníyą́ą́'?: Did you eat good? I'm also a fan of resurrecting old words. One of the elders of my community, Ella Begay, shares another old Navajo slang term for saying, "I'm full" at the end of the video: Jíníshchxosh/ájíníshchxosh: I'm full (very old Navajo slang) In case you want to use these words tomorrow for Thanksgiving, feel free to use these words! Happy Thanksgiving!
