TANGERANG, KOMPAS.TV - As of Wednesday (July 1, 2026) evening, the fire at the Jatiwaringin Landfill in Tangerang, Banten, continued to spread. Extinguishing efforts were hampered by strong winds and difficult access to the fire. The fire, which is burning through piles of garbage at the Jatiwaringin Landfill, is still burning in several locations. Thick smoke is still billowing from the mountains of garbage, enveloping the landfill area. Firefighters remain on standby at the scene, struggling to extinguish the fire. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) deployed a water-bombing helicopter to expedite the extinguishing process. The numerous hotspots, strong winds, and difficult access for firefighters to reach the fires are hampering the extinguishing effort. The water-bombing firefighting technique will continue tomorrow with two additional helicopters.
