Albert Lea

If you've ever made a trip down to Iowa, chances are you've had to pass through Albert Lea, one of the largest towns in southern Minnesota. It luckily found itself at the crossroads of I-90 and I-35, which was decided when the US Interstate system was created by President Eisenhower. The project was one of the largest engineering projects in US history, and the decision to put Albert Lea at an interstate intersection has kept the city moving. The Myre-Big Island State Park is located just outside of town and it boasts as one of the largest patches of an almost-extinct natural habitat: the Oak Savannah. I'd absolutely suggest stopping here when you have the chance, or taking the time to do some camping in the plains. In the earlier or later months of the year, campsites in this region may be more comfortable because they're some of the first (and last) to get the warm winds of the south.
