1941-46 Boy Scouts at Summer Camp (Camp Kernochan & Camp Man)
A home movie of Camp Kernochan (formerly named Camp Man) filmed by my grandfather Gus Martens in 1941 and the later 1940s. It features the Boy Scouts of Queens, NY with emphasis on Troop 20 of College Point. The young lad who appears most frequently is my father Warren Martens. At the time that he attended, Camp Kernochan/Man was part of the Ten Mile River Scout Camps in Narrowsburg, New York. Kernochan closed in 2004, but the Ten Mile River Scout Camps remains active with 3 other campsites. Gus Martens used 16mm Kodachrome film and a spring-wound hand-held camera to shoot this movie. DuArt Media Services of New York City digitized the footage. I edited the video with iMovie and used Photoshop to create the titles. Robert W. Martens July 18, 2009
