Saqi - Madhubala, Premnath
Saqi, 1952 Director: H.S. Rawail Screenplay: Kamal Amrohi Music Director: C. Ramchandra Lyrics: Rajendar Krishan Choreography: Gopi Krishna Playback: C. Ramachandra, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Shamshad Begum, Talat Mahmood Cast: Madhubala, Premnath, Bipin Gupta, Mohana, Randir, Gope, Cuckoo An Arabian Nights tale with a poor but good-hearted hero (Premnath) who loves a beautiful princess (Madhubala), an evil man also trying to get the princess by hook or by crook (Bipin Gupta?), and even a genie with a magic lamp (Gope), who has a beautiful girl of his own (Mohana). And two major dances by Cuckoo. No translation, sorry. The VHS tape from which this was made was kindly supplied by Dr. Kapur, with help from Surjit Singh. I am grateful to the both of them, especially Dr. Kapur who has held on to this rare tape for many years now. At about the 11:05 minute mark, in my source there was some obvious missing footage. I looked at the inferior T-Series DVD and found about 23 seconds more. You can't help but notice where the added two scenes are because of the poor quality video and audio of the DVD. There are missing frames throughout, and little jumps in the action you might notice from time to time, in spite of my efforts to cover it up. During the first Cuckoo song and dance there was a section with an especially lot of missing frames and, again, I replaced it from the T-Series DVD. From 35:46 to 37:00 you'll notice the inferior video with the remains of the T-Series logo in the upper right, along with the muffled-sounding audio.
