In a surprise move, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune dismissed Major General Noureddine Ghouasmia, commander of the Gendarmerie, after approximately a year and a half in office. The Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, oversaw the installation ceremony of Brigadier General Yahia Ali Oulhadj as the new commander of the Gendarmerie, succeeding Major General Ghouasmia. This latest dismissal within the Algerian security apparatus comes less than a month after the announcement of the new government and is part of a series of changes implemented by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune since the early parliamentary elections last June and the subsequent election of a new parliament.
