Day of Remembrance Panel Discussion

The Idaho State Museum screened the documentary film Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066 in observation of the Day of Remembrance. This was to commemorate the 80th anniversary of E.O. 9066 which authorized the forced removal and mass incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese Americans during WWII. The one-hour film was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Robyn Achilles, Executive Director of the Friends of Minidoka, with Director Jon Osaki, Leo Morales, Executive Director of The ACLU of Idaho; and Honorable Ronald E. Bush, Magistrate Judge (retired) of the United States District Court for the District of Idaho. Film Summary: Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066 by Jon Osaki is a documentary feature film about the false information and political influences which led to the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. The film exposes the lies used to justify the mass incarceration and the cover-up that went all the way to the United States Supreme Court. The film also examines the parallels to the current climate of fear, attitudes towards immigrant communities, and similar attempts to abuse the powers of the government. This program was presented in partnership with Friends of Minidoka, Minidoka National Historic Site, Boise State University School of Public Service, the Idaho State Museum, and the Boise Valley JACL.
