The first section of a backcountry skiing adventure with Kasia Nizinkiewicz begins in Hommelvik, near Trondheim. We buy more food at the local supermarket, I go in search of gas canisters (I managed), and then we start walking because there's not enough snow for skiing. We head for a path that's very difficult to navigate with a pulka, we somehow drag them and crawl up the rocks, but we can't reach the cabin and have to set up camp. Meanwhile, it starts snowing. Now we can ski, but the terrain is still not good, and we cover a full 1.5 km in one day! We change Kasia's planned route, as I had anticipated from the beginning. We walk a good distance on asphalt, using the remnants of ice on the road, but we have to hitch hike up the last 5 km. We camp in a shower and hit the skiing tracks in the morning. After a beautiful sunny day, we'll spend the night in a less-than-luxurious but ultimately cozy cabin. The next day, my ski bindings fail spectacularly. Will it be repairable, or is this the end of the trip? Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraiser for the DJI Osmo Action 6 camera I bought for this hike! I know it wasn't perfect... I didn't manage to buy a microphone, and the camera's audio is weak. Furthermore, I wasn't aware that I needed to change the camera's encoding settings to edit the video in Da Vinci Resolve. I had to convert the footage, which resulted in a loss of quality. I hope the skiing footage adds more dynamics than I've seen in my winter videos so far.
