Railfanning West Chicago and Naperville 5/29/2026

5-29-2026 Found out this morning that today’s A490-81 had a NS leader + a Zebra Stripe Canadian Cab duo trailing in the lashup. Also heard that A491-91 had some CSX power on the front. I did not want to miss both trains but I did not want to go to Normantown because of a CN truck so I tagged along with my mom on her job that was in the vicinity of the famous West Chicago diamond and she let me stay just a little bit at the diamond. A490 passed right when I got there followed by an unexpected northbound local with two Geeps on point including INAR 3800 trailing second! I then got A491 successfully including a CN Dash 9 splitting the CSX Duo in the middle. Also got a few trains on the UP side as well. After that I headed home. Not long later I found out that NS 4001, a sonic bonnet unit was running the racetrack on tonight’s H-NSINTW. So I headed to Naperville along with two other YouTuber friends in hopes of seeing it. After a while of waiting and seeing a random westbound empty coal train from the NS, we were beginning to loose hope, until 4001 finally came by leading NSINTW. Also caught a Z train right after 4001 had passed.
