Bonner David Galleries: Introducing Artist Ron Hicks
The emotional content is powerful in the work of artist Ron Hicks. His paintings have been characterized as a blend of representational art and impressionism, with a contemporary feel. Hicks guides viewers into the realm of emotion and allows them to have their own encounter with his paintings. The Colorado artist is adamant about leaving interpretation up to viewers. As a result, the depth of humanity displayed in Hicks’ subject matter is phenomenal, and the artist manages to do this with sophisticated ease. “I am trying to find harmony between realism and abstraction by combining both elements in my paintings,” reveals Hicks. It is undeniable that Hicks has taken a more abstract approach to his art these days and the result is spectacular. Hicks’ work conveys a natural fluidity, accentuated by muted tones and loose brushstrokes. “Gray allows me to capture atmosphere, mood, and layers of emotion,” says Hicks. The artist’s painterly style is rooted in strong draftsmanship. “Everything is directly related to shapes and values,” explains Hicks, “But artists should always move, explore, never settle.” Ron Hick is certainly moving the viewer. He is taking all of us on an aesthetic journey full of wonder and awe.
