UNIVERSITIES EXPOSED! Parliament Demands Universities Comply with Immigration Laws l June 27, 2026
South Africa's Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, working alongside the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, has intensified oversight of the employment of foreign academics at public universities and TVET colleges. Committee members have raised concerns that some institutions may not be fully complying with immigration and labour laws when employing foreign nationals. They stressed that foreign appointments should align with the country's critical skills requirements and should not disadvantage suitably qualified South Africans where no genuine skills shortage exists. The committees have also called for more accurate employment data and stronger coordination between the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Department of Home Affairs, and other oversight bodies. Parliament of South Africa +1 In this video, we examine the committee's concerns, the latest statistics presented to Parliament, and what these developments could mean for South Africa's higher education sector, local graduates, and future employment policies. 👍 Like | 💬 Comment | 🔔 Subscribe to Mzansi Citizen for more South African news and analysis.
