76 Years at Abrams Yard: 1947-2023
Dale Woodland grew up watching and photographing trains in the Reading Railroad’s Abrams Yard near Norristown, Pennsylvania, and has continued doing so for over seven decades. His photos document the evolution of the yard and railroading itself through Reading ownership, to Conrail, and finally to current owner Norfolk Southern. We get to see a wide variety of diesel locomotives: yard switchers, road units, foreign power, and present-day NS heritage units. Woodland is the author of several books on Reading diesels. He is also a columnist for Railpace Magazine and is a board member of the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society. This presentation was recorded live at the February 26, 2024 meeting of the West Jersey Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society held in Audubon, New Jersey and virtually.
