The scariest motorcycle ride we ever took was going up Pikes Peak in dense fog. No turnaround.

We rode up Pikes Peak in Colorado when the clouds and fog rolled in on us. We had no visibility and it was the scariest ride we ever took on a motorcycle, and we have since been on all the top scary highways listed in America except Hawaii and Alaska. We just got stuck in the situation. I for sure don't recommend going up this mountain without first checking the forecast . We rode up again the next year just to see what we did not see before and yes, it was scary again. This mountain is the real deal. The drop-offs and switchbacks are severe with no guard rails and is the kind of ride you want perfect visibility, and we didn't have it. The weekend both years was the weekend of the famous International Hill Climb where in 2015, the day before we were there, a motorcyclist was killed on his trial run when he was almost to the top. After 2 more fatalities in 2014 and 2019 of the Hill Climb, motorcycles were banned from the race. It is truly spectacular as long as you respect the danger.
