This trip covers the Catwalk Recreational Area - a walkway bolted to canyon rock with a history of surviving flood after flood. Cosmic Campground, one of the darkest sky preserves in the country. Silver City, a mining town that crashed and reinvented itself more than once, including a stretch of downtown that's now literally a canyon. The City of Rocks State Park, a landscape carved by a volcanic eruption 35 million years ago. The Gila Cliff Dwellings, where a Native American community built homes into a canyon wall seven hundred years ago, dwellings still standing today. All finished off with a soak in some natural hot springs (Gila Hot Springs). Six stops. Three days. One state most people write off way too fast.
