Daniel Steibelt - Sonata op 64, Cantabile I Movement/Anna Petrova-Forster, piano
The fantastic rumors, the gossip and legends that accumulated over the past 200 years have completely veiled the true personality of Daniel Steibelt (1765-1823) and his real achievements in the piano music. A true phenomenon at the turn of the 18th / 19th century, he was one of the first traveling virtuoso pianists and one of the first romantic composers for many of his contemporaries. From the middle of the 19th century, Steibelt gradually began to be considered a charlatan. Decades after Steibelt's death, those who had never heard any of his performances began to criticize his virtuosity, accusing him of mediocrity. Many contemporary musicologists and musicians share this view without being familiar with Steibelt's work. The sonata in G major, opus 64 was published in1805 - 1806 and has four movements.
