At a pedestrian crossing, 12-year-old Wiktoria was fatally struck by a car driven by Józef B., a professional driver. The same man had also fatally struck a man in a crosswalk several years earlier. The girl was heading to school, but her journey ended in hospital, where after several days of fighting for her life, doctors declared her brain dead. The criminal trial in this case concluded conclusively. "He exceeded the speed limit by 22 km/h. Secondly, he failed to properly observe the roadway and the intersection area, as well as the pedestrian crossing behind it. He failed to exercise due caution in this area."
