Major Repairs! Peugeot 106 GTI Rear Axle Trouble
In this video, I take on a frustrating but rewarding rear axle repair on my Peugeot 106 after an issue turned into a much bigger challenge. It all started when I noticed that the bolt securing the rear sway bar had come loose while driving. Thinking it would be a quick fix, I grabbed a replacement bolt and went to tighten it back into place — but I overtightened as I was worried about it coming loose again, and ended up snapping the bolt clean off inside the axle. With the broken bolt lodged in the axle and no way to easily remove it, I reached out to several local garages for help. To my surprise, none of them were willing to take on the job — either it was too awkward, too small, or just not worth their time. That left me with one choice: I had to fix it myself. So I set out on foot to a local tool hire shop to pick up a snapped bolt extraction kit. In the video, I walk you through the whole process — from identifying the issue to carefully extracting the broken bolt and getting everything back together properly. Here's what you'll see in the video: 🔧 Step-by-step bolt extraction process: Assessing the damage and preparing the work area Drilling a precise pilot hole into the snapped bolt Using a bolt extractor to back the broken bolt out without damaging the threads Cleaning up the hole and preparing it for a new bolt Installing a new high-strength replacement bolt to secure the sway bar back in place 🚙 What went wrong (and what I learned): I’ll talk about how easily a job can go sideways when you over-torque a bolt, and what you can do to avoid the same mistake. I also share some tips for working on older cars where parts might be more fragile or prone to issues like this. 👨🔧 Why I had to do it myself: No one else would take it on, and sometimes, when you own an older car like the Peugeot 106, you’ve got to be ready to get your hands dirty. Whether it’s for the love of the car or just to keep it running, DIY repairs can be incredibly satisfying — even if they start out frustrating. With the repair complete, I was able to get the car safely back on the road and back to my own garage where I could carry out further repairs in a more controlled environment. If you’re tackling a similar job, dealing with a snapped bolt, or just looking to learn more about rear axle components on the Peugeot 106, this video might help you out — or at the very least, show you what to expect. 👉 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and drop a comment if you’ve had to fix something similar — or if you’ve got any questions about the process.
