We Make it Great in the Sunshine State -1980s Television Commercial - Queensland Advertising
During April of 1980, media agency Knowles and Bristow (now BCM Group) recorded over a minute of unadulterated Queensland pride. The music is cheesy, the imagery a tad cliché, and the slogan has a punch in the modern context that never could have been predicted. “We Make It Great In The Sunshine State” was seen as an obvious spin on lyrics from the Queensland centenary anthem, which chanted “life is great in the sunshine state”. In other words, it is steeped in state pride and a belief that we are destined for bigger, brighter opportunities. https://www.flickr.com/photos/queensl... This phrase launched in 1979 by then-Minister for Industry, Norm Lee. But it was short-lived. Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s government would switch to “Enterprise Queensland” only three years later before being replaced with “Queensland: a stronger state, a better life” in 1985.
