genre: psychedelic folk rock, acid rock, psychedelic folk year: 1975 label: none (KML-1006) this record is featured in the Wonder Ground Record Book by Branco Label. i didn't necessarily think that it would be this quick before i uploaded another ridiculously rare and highly sought after LP, but here it is. for the longest time the best rip of this album that was publicly available was in 32kbps MP3... which is unacceptable crap. it was bitcrushed to hell with a lot of the nuances of the music lost in a spiral of compression. this is the upload intended to fix that forever. Kurimushiyokan is one of many one-off bands from 1970s Japan that specialized in an abundant assortment of folk music. this record in particular was pressed to 100 copies and is one of the most highly sought after Japanese private pressings of all time, without exaggeration. it features just about everything you'd expect by now of the genre: loner folk, minimal folk and folk rock, playful folk group chants, warm wah-wah and fuzz guitar breaks, basically the entire palette. however, a particular piece on the record sung in English stands out to me – that piece being 雪のエルサレムに花火が (Yuki no Jerusalem ni hanabi ga), which feels like a massive outlier in an already great record, in that it is beyond exceptional in atmosphere and is genuinely far ahead of its time. it almost channels the energy of slowcore with its dirge-y pace. it's a frankly incredible song among a bunch of excellent ones, all recorded in very lo-fi quality that gives this album a unique sense of fogginess and distance.
