The Beauty of the Vinyl Crackle: Why Your Flaws Matter | Haktan Timur Durmus | TEDxTIS Youth
Why do we spend so much time trying to hide our flaws? In this insightful talk, Haktan uses the philosophy of wabi-sabi and the imperfect beauty of lo-fi music to show why our quirks, mistakes, and imperfections are often the very things that make us meaningful. A compelling reminder to stop editing our lives and start embracing what makes us human. For Timur, a 17-year-old IB DP 11th grader, life has been a constant rotation of cultures and countries. Amidst such fluidity in his life, his passion for music has been the only thing that has remained static. His connection to it evolved from dancing to playing instruments and eventually producing his own music. In his first TEDxTIS Youth talk, Timur discusses why people feel pressured to live perfect lives. He uses the technical concepts of Lo-Fi music to show that imperfections aren’t mistakes, instead being the parts of our lives that make us relatable. By sharing his experiences with music production, Timur explains why we should stop editing our lives and instead accept the unpolished parts of our identities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
