Great Northern JJ's Visit to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center for 2026's National Train Day.

On Saturday May 9th 2026 I spent the morning taking a look around the Oregon Rail Heritage Center for National Train Day. The Polson #2 and the SP&S #700 were under steam on the day. The turntable was operating and a volunteer did a 360 of the Mount Emily Lumber Co. #1 Shay. It was an exciting day out capped by the excursion between the center and Oaks Park, where the Southern Pacific 4449 resided before being restored to run as one of the more famous steam engines to pull the 1976 American Freedom Train. Unfortunately due to a mechanical issue she wasn't under steam this year. I can't wait to hear her chimes and chuffing once more though!
