Last time I tested this Aguila 40gr LRN Subsonic, the results were, let’s say — not impressive.That test was done in a Tikka T1x, and expectations were modest back then. This time?Same ammo.Different rifle.And I’m genuinely curious if this load deserves a second chance. So let’s find out — properly. 🔧 Test Setup Ammo: Aguila .22LR 40gr LRN Subsonic Rifle: Bergara B14R Optic: Meopta Optika6 5–30×56 Paper targets: 50 yards Steel spinners & golf balls: 100 yards Support: Solid bench setup Conditions: Controlled – no wind drama This is a mechanical accuracy test first —then we stretch things out for some real-world fun at distance. 📊 What I’m Looking For ✔ Tighter groups than last time✔ Reduced vertical stringing✔ Consistent point of impact✔ Predictable performance at 100 yards I’m not asking this ammo to compete with top-tier match loads —but it does need to clear a certain minimum standard. 🎯 50 Yards – Paper Results At 50 yards, accuracy was pretty much identical to my previous test. Not impressive.Definitely not match precision. The groups are wide enough that, on paper, you’d expect this ammo to struggle at longer distances. 🔭 100 Yards – Practical Results And yet… Despite what the paper suggests,I was able to score multiple hits at 100 yards. Not lucky one-offs —but repeatable hits. This tells us something important: The groups aren’t tight But the dispersion is fairly even No wild, unpredictable flyers That makes the ammo more usable in practice than the paper groups alone would indicate. 🧠 Why This Matters Paper doesn’t always tell the whole story. For match shooting, group size is everything.But for practical shooting or hunting at moderate distances,predictability can matter just as much as raw precision. And in this case, the ammo behaved better in the field than on paper. ⚠️ Final Verdict Is this match ammo?❌ Absolutely not. Is it inconsistent?✅ Very much so Is it better than the groups suggest?✅ Yes — slightly.
