The Missing Muslim Soldiers?

"Muslims don't even join the Indian Army." You've seen this WhatsApp forward. But is it true? In May 2025, Colonel Sophia Qureshi briefed the nation on Operation Sindoor. A Muslim officer, at the centre of India's biggest military operation. So how can both things be true at the same time? In this video, we investigate the famous "2%" number — who actually counted it, why the Indian Army refuses to keep religious data, and the three historical reasons (Partition, British colonial policy, and the education gap) that explain the real story. You'll meet Brigadier Mohammad Usman — the man Pakistan offered its Army Chief position, who said no and died defending Nowshera. And Veer Abdul Hamid, who destroyed 7 Patton tanks at Asal Uttar and won the Param Vir Chakra. This is not about defending anyone. It's about asking one question before you forward that message: WHO COUNTED? 📚 SOURCES Sachar Committee Report (2006), Govt of India — education & employment data; armed forces data request Economic and Political Weekly — analysis of Muslim representation in the officer corps Gen.
