ODISSEA: chi erano davvero gli dèi di Omero? | Mauro Biglino
🎬 Two days after the release of The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's new film, we return directly to Homer's poems to ask a question that cinema leaves in the background: who really were the gods who intervened in the affairs of men? In this special video, created using a new selection of the most significant episodes from the successful series "Elohim and Theoi – The Bible and Homer," Mauro Biglino compares the Homeric world with some tales from the Old Testament. Two traditions normally considered very different seem to maintain surprisingly similar narrative structures: beings defined as gods who generate descendants with men, govern peoples, receive territories, and move between earth and sky. 📜 From the Phaeacians of the Odyssey, described as intimately close to the Theoi and genealogically linked to Poseidon, the comparison leads to Genesis 6 and the sons of the Elohim. From the biblical story of the division of the nations in Deuteronomy 32, we then move on to Plato's Critias, where the gods divide the earth and receive their own territories. ☁️ The final section addresses one of the most enigmatic aspects of ancient texts: the movements of the heavens. The flaming chariots of Athena and Hera, the horses roaring overhead, the clouds, the lights, and the movements described in the Homeric poems are compared to the experiences narrated by Ezekiel, the ruach, the kavod of Yahweh, the wheels, and the great noise made when they were lifted. Mauro Biglino does not propose replacing one dogma with another. He applies his declared method: pretending that the ancient authors intended to recount concrete facts and verifying what happens when the Bible and Homer are read, without immediately transforming every detail into myth, allegory, or religious symbol. 🏺 The Odyssey returns to the center of the global imagination today thanks to Nolan's cinema. This video invites us to return to the sources and words of the ancients, to take a closer look at the Elohim of the Bible, the Greek Theoi, their genealogies, the division of the Earth, and the enigmatic objects described in the heavens.
