John McLaughlin & The One Truth Band - Miles Davis (1979-06-18)
John McLaughlin & The One Truth Band - Santa Monica 1979 [AUD] Santa Monica Civic Center, Santa Monica, CA June 18, 1979. John Mclaughlin: Guitars & Banjo; L. Shankar: Acoustic And Electric Violin; Stu Goldberg: Keys; Fernando Saunders: Bass; Tony Smith: Drums; Alyrio Lima: Percussion. ----------- Notes: John McLaughlin and the One Truth Band 1979-06-18 Santa Monica Civic Center; Santa Monica, CA ; re-worked rm (FLAC) This is a very nice recording from the 2nd version of John McLaughlin's One Truth Band. It's at the time they were touring to promote the terrific Electric Dreams album (one of my personal favorites out of his entire catalog). 4 songs played here are from that. The short version of where this fits in the John McLaughlin canon is that John went acoustic with Shakti after 3 distinct versions of the Mahavishnu Orchestra wrapped things up in the summer of 1975. After 3 excellent Shakti albums, the "all star guests" Johnny McLaughlin Electric Guitarist album was recorded and released. That gave birth to the first One Truth Band and gigs played in the summer of 1978. By later that year the original rhythm section of T.M. Stevens and Woody "Sonship" Theus was replaced with one that came over from the Jan Hammer Group, Fernando Saunders and Tony "Thunder" Smith. Stu Goldberg was a holdover from One Truth v.1 (and the final 70's Mahavishnu Orchestra), and Weather Report alum Alyrio Lima was added in on percussion. None of this lasted long, though, because John and Stu Goldberg were off later that year to European gigs with Jack Bruce and Billy Cobham. Those shows included some of this Electric Dreams material. You'll hear a bit more depth and detail, and, thanks to goody, it's all now running at the proper speed. jswetch - 2026-06-30 (The Traders' Den) Enjoy! http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/s...
