Eating Goa’s Most Iconic Street Food | Ros Omlette to Chorizo Pao | North Goa | South Goa

Goa is often introduced to the world through its beaches, nightlife, and coastal beauty. But beyond the postcards and party scenes exists another Goa, one that truly comes alive on busy streets, roadside stalls, local bakeries, bustling markets, football grounds, and evening chai stops. And perhaps the best way to understand this side of Goa… is through its street food. In this episode, we take you on a flavorful journey through Goa’s most iconic street food dishes, the foods locals grow up eating, the snacks tied to childhood memories, rainy evenings, village feasts, late-night drives, and everyday life. Hosted by Eish Kakodkar with Soul Travelling, this video explores the stories, history, culture, migration, and local influences hidden behind some of Goa’s most loved dishes. From the spicy comfort of Ros Omelette to the smoky flavours of Choriz Pao, from crispy Rissois to nostalgic Croquettes, this is more than just a food tour, it’s an exploration of Goa’s cultural identity through food. 🍳 What Makes Goan Street Food So Unique? Goan street food is unlike anywhere else in India because it reflects centuries of cultural exchange. Over time, Goa absorbed influences from: Konkan food traditions Portuguese culinary practices Catholic home cooking Saraswat cuisine Local village food culture Maritime trade routes Many ingredients that are central to Goan cuisine today, such as chillies, potatoes, tomatoes, vinegar-based cooking, bread-making traditions, and even cashew, arrived through Portuguese influence and were slowly adapted into local life. The result? A food culture that feels deeply Goan, yet carries traces of history in every bite. 🍛 In This Video We Explore: 🍳 Ros Omelette One of Goa’s most iconic street food dishes. A spicy curry or “ros” poured over a fluffy omelette and served with fresh local pao. Simple, comforting, messy, and unforgettable. Ros Omelette is deeply connected to football grounds, roadside stalls, rainy evenings, and late-night food culture across Goa. 🌭 Choriz Pao / Choris Pao The legendary Goan sausage bread. Influenced by Portuguese “chouriço,” Goan choriz evolved into something entirely local, smokier, spicier, richer, and deeply tied to Goan Catholic food traditions. Cooked with onions, spices, and oils soaking into fresh pao, this remains one of Goa’s most loved comfort foods. 🍔 Cutlet Pao Goa’s answer to a burger. Crispy crumb-fried cutlets stuffed into soft local bread with onions and sauces, a snack that generations of Goans grew up eating outside schools, bus stands, bakeries, and local cafés. 🥟 Rissois These Portuguese-influenced stuffed pastries became a bakery staple across Goa. Filled with prawn, fish, chicken, or vegetables, rissois are still found in old-school snack counters and local bakeries throughout the state. 🍢 Croquettes A classic Goan snack with colonial roots and strong local adaptation. Minced meat, local spices, chillies, herbs, breadcrumbs, and deep-fried perfection. Croquettes continue to be associated with Goan celebrations, tiatrs, gatherings, and evening snacks. 🎥 About Soul Travelling Soul Travelling is an experiential travel company based in Goa that focuses on storytelling-led cultural experiences across the state.
