Pellionia repens Variegated in 12 Months: Growth, Pests & More! š
Hey plant family! Welcome back to my channel, itās your oneāperson plant party here! Today weāre diving into the muchārequested 1āyear review of my Pellionia repens variegated, youāve been asking, so Iām finally sharing all the deets. Iāve structured this review like my other videos, with clear sections so you can skip to what you want, but trust me, youāll want to watch it all. Alright, Iām buzzing with excitement because Pellionia repens variegated is not your everyday houseplant. Itās rare, itās tropical, and after one full year of watching every inch of it grow, Iām hooked. In todayās video, weāll explore what this plant has been up to in that year, chat about its growth speed, how easy it was to propagate, availability, pests, accessories Iāve used, and of course the final verdict. Letās go! Background So, what is Pellionia repens variegated? Itās a rare tropical houseplant with beautiful variegation, those creamy or silvery patches on green leaves ā and a creeping habit that makes it perfect for hanging baskets or as groundcover in your collection. Itās a bit of a hidden gem, not as common as philodendrons or pothos, but for that reason itās a total showstopper. Speed of Growth Hereās where it gets exciting, Iāve tracked its growth month by month. At first, it was slow to settle in, maybe because it was still adjusting to my humidity and lighting. But once it hit its stride, around month 3, oh, those stems started creeping fast, putting out fresh variegated leaves almost weekly. By month 6, it looked fuller, with longer runners and more vibrancy. In the last few months, itās just exploded in a good way, new thick leaves, extended reach. So to sum up: moderate pace early on, then fair to fast after acclimation. Ease of Propagation Yes, I tried propagating this cute creeper and good news: it was easier than I expected. Tip: cut just below a node, pop it in water, wait for roots to show, then plant in soil. I had a success rate of about 70ā80%. The variegated parts retained their pattern nicely (no reversion so far!), which I know is a concern with variegated plants. Availability Variegated Pellionia is not the easiest to locate. Iāve seen it pop up on specialty tropical plant shops online, occasionally at rare plant Facebook groups, and sometimes in UK/US/European rare plant fairs. Expect to pay a bit more because itās not massāproduced. Pests Of course, houseplants = potential visitors. This variegated Pellionia has been surprisingly tough. Iāve had some tiny mealybugs early on, but a gentle soap spray and a humidity boost cleared them. No major insect invasions, knock on wood. I walk you through how I check leaves, look out for sticky residue or webbing, and my goāto pestādefense routine. Accessories & Care Letās talk kit: Iāve been using a lightweight, wellādraining tropical soil mix, plus a humidity tray and fluorescent grow light on days when UK winter sun is shy. I detail how often I water (keep it moist but not soggy!), my fertiliser routine, and how I rotate the pot for even growth. Plus, I show you the accessories that make my life easier: moisture meter, spray bottle with soft rose head, and a clear humidity dome when cuttings are rooting. Final Thoughts Okay, wrapāup time! After one year, this variegated Pellionia is a total delight, itās grown into the most beautiful sprawling green and cream cascade. Itās not highāmaintenance, super rewarding to propagate, and just the rare, unusual tropical vibe many of you love. If youāre thinking of adding it to your collection, go for it: Iād love to see how yours grows! Drop questions in the comments and Iāll try to help.
