The Ultimate Tubifex Food & Substrate Guide: Parts 1

The Ultimate Tubifex Food & Substrate Guide: Parts 1 1: Vegetable scraps & fermentation These are vegetable scraps. Highly accessible and practically free ($0). Beyond just vegetables, you can also utilize fruit waste. Simply chop or blend them finely to achieve the best results. While whole pieces are an option, they will extend the fermentation time. Finely chopped scraps are ready to feed in 7-10 days. Conversely, whole scraps take 3x longer to decompose fully. 2: Nutritional feed Now we need more ingredients To boost the nutritional value. This is pig feed. You can also use chicken feed. But remember to use the fine-milled type. Pellets take longer to soak and expand. 3: Microbial powder & mixing This is microbial powder. It helps decompose organic matter. Inhibits odor-causing bacteria. Add a sufficient amount. Follow the instructions provided. Details are on every packaging. Now mix everything well. Make sure to mix thoroughly. This ensures faster results. 4: Fermentation process & storage After mixing well, Transfer to the fermentation bin. Pay close attention at this stage. If the feed is too dry, add water. If it looks like this video, Just add molasses or brown sugar. Add a sufficient amount And mix well one more time. Flatten the surface and Add a thin layer of microbial starter. Cover and start fermentation. Keep it in a cool, shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, As it can kill the microbial colony. 5: Coconut coir substrate The food preparation is complete. Next, let's look at the substrate. I'm using coconut coir here. It is a highly effective option. Soak and treat for 72 hours. Change the water 3 times every 24h. Then, squeeze it slightly dry. Now it is ready for use. Use the same microbial starter. The fermentation time stays the same.
