Finding Reactions for a Non-Concurrent Force System Suspended by a Link, a Slot & a Roller
Here a part is loaded as a non-concurrent force system via link, slot, and roller connections. A free body diagram is prepared, including discussions of the meanings of the directions assumed for the force vectors drawn (e.g. tension versus compression in the link). Equilibrium equations are first written without using particular care in choosing the point around which to sum moments. The linear system solver in the Casio fx-115es plus is then used to solve the resulting 3 equation 3 unknown system. An alternate solution is then shown where a different point is used around which to sum moments, and the resulting equation is written in terms of only one unknown (the force in the link).
