The History of the Missouri Valley Conference (ft. @walking_the_line)

There aren't many mid-major conferences out there that have the swagger and the clout that the Missouri Valley Conference has. The conference that spawned the Big 12 has had titans stomp their athletics halls, like the Oklahoma Sooners and Nebraska Cornhuskers, as well as some other surprise teams, like Cincinnati, Houston, and Louisville, but ever since its lost its best threats, it's also had some of the greatest mid-major programs in the country. Wichita State, Creighton, Saint Louis, and Bradley have all spent their time in the conference for football, basketball, and baseball. Not to mention the football conference, led by the North Dakota State Bison, absolutely dominating FCS football for the last fifteen years. But how did the Missouri Valley get here? Who all has had a hand in making the Missouri Valley what it is, and who all has been bettered by it? 16 schools that had at one point called the conference home are now in the FBS, and 11 of those schools are now considered "power conference" schools. With history like that, the Missouri Valley might just be the most underrated conference in NCAA history. Come along with me and ‪@walking_the_line‬ as we go through the conference's history, its ups and downs, and see what brought them to where they are now.
