📖 Discover the Great Castle of Pedraza with this unique video, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Spain, located in the walled town of Pedraza (Segovia, Castile and León). In 2025, following its acquisition in 2024 by a new company, the castle's interior will open to the public for the first time in its entirety: towers, walls, courtyards, museum, and interior gardens. This tour is the definitive guide to discovering every corner of the fortress. The castle was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, on Roman and Arab remains. The Herrera family remodeled it in the 15th century, and later the Fernández de Velasco family (Dukes of Frías and Constables of Castile) refurbished it, giving it much of its current appearance. Its most notable features are its keep, Romanesque-style interior courtyards, semicircular arches, a black poplar gate with iron spikes, and the coats of arms of the noble families who lived there. During the 16th century, it was the prison for the children of the French king Francis I, who were held here after the Battle of Pavia as collateral for the Treaty of Madrid with Charles I. In the 20th century, the painter Ignacio Zuloaga transformed the castle into his home and workshop. The castle is surrounded by legends, such as that of Elvira and Roberto, lovers whose spirits, according to tradition, roam the fortress after a tragic story in the 13th century. Furthermore, it witnessed numerous medieval events linked to the Castilian nobility and significant historical conflicts. Since this year, the castle can be fully visited, thanks to its new owners, Santiago Segura, José Mota, and theater producer Luis Álvarez, who have revitalized the space and incorporated it into the Spanish Historical Heritage Network. The visit includes access to the interior: private rooms, lounges, passageways, and other previously unseen spaces.
