Express inner nostalgia and spiritual landscapes, Atsushi Matsubayashi.

Atsushi Matsubayashi is a Japanese painter. He mainly produces portraits in watercolor and oil paint. He studied painting at the Nihon University College of Art and has held several solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Osaka, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Originally majoring in oil painting in university, he became fascinated by the allure of watercolor in 2015, producing a large body of watercolor works and developing a distinctive personal style. His works primarily employ a soft wet-on-wet technique, blending various contrasting colors, washes, and creating a rich atmosphere, exuding a unique ambiguous quality and an indescribable hazy beauty. Atsushi Matsubayashi's work may initially appear as allegorical figures, but in reality, he likes to use models to express inner nostalgia and spiritual landscapes, showcasing his long-held aesthetic philosophy of "a spiritual and transparent world integrated with light." Atsushi Matsubayashi chairs a watercolor class in Shizuoka, Japan, and has published various books on the watercolor technique. He is a member of JWS (Japan Watercolor Society).
