The accused, Paras Som (23), allegedly attacked Sunita when she resisted his attempt to forcibly take her daughter. The daughter witnessed her mother's horrific murder in front of her eyes, begged for mercy, but was overpowered with threats of a pistol (tamancha) and forcibly taken away.For almost 3 days, Ruby was missing – taken to Khatauli, Delhi, and later towards Haridwar. In a dramatic rescue operation, Meerut and Saharanpur police arrested Paras Som and safely recovered the girl. The emotional moment when Ruby reunited with her father, broke down crying, saying – "Papa, I'm so unfortunate... I couldn't even see my mother's last face" – will leave you speechless.In court, the brave Dalit girl gave a fearless statement: "I will die but won't lie." She even drew the picture of the farasa (axe) used in the murder. However, Paras Som claims in court that it was a consensual relationship of 3 years, and both had planned to elope – denying the murder.This case has sparked massive outrage over crimes against Dalit women, caste violence, and women's safety in UP.
