Magnetostatics 8 : Multipole Expansion for Magnetic Field
In this video I continue with my tutorials on magnetostatics which is pitched at university undergraduate level. Specifically I derive the magnetic multipole expansion. Here we expand the vector potential in a power series of the inverse separation vector's magnitude. He find that the first term is the magnetic monopole term (always zero), the second term is for the dipole etc. Just like the electric expansion, the lowest non zero term is what we measure at large distances. Since the monopole term is always zero (no magnetic monopoles, sources or charges) we usually measure the dipole potnetial. Finally I derive the dipole term using the dipole moment IA, which requires some vector calculus and has a health warning associated with it!! I hope it's of use!! Thank you for watching and I hope that this matches your requirements. Please feel free to provide feedback via comments and share with your friends.
