The American Language Program, founded in 1911, is one of the oldest English language programs in the United States. The ALP aims to achieve the following: –provide high-quality academic English courses for full-time language students, matriculated Columbia graduate and undergraduate students, and other members of the Columbia University –help students become familiar with U.S. culture –prepare students for studying in a U.S. academic context –promote the internationalization of Columbia Our mission is to provide rigorous English language education that supports the academic, professional and personal goals of our student community, while promoting critical thinking and intercultural awareness. Columbia University American Language Program Intensive English Program is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) for the period August 2019 through August 2029 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions. CEA is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for English language programs and institutions in the U.S.. The American Language Program is a member program of University and College Intensive English Program (UCIEP) and English USA. Columbia University is accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).
