The Injury Recall Technique Presented by John Maguire

Injury Recall is useful for injuries … both old injuries and often indicated for recent injury. It increases the range of movement and decreases (at least to some degree) pain levels. It is a technique that is easy to do on other people but you can also do it on yourself. At 16:05 John Maguire demonstrates this. Notice how in doing this, he takes the weight of his head with one hand so that dropping the head forward and bringing it back to the vertical position (as he is sitting) does not actively engage the neck muscles. Also notice how (at 4:01) he initially checked the subject’s neck for this problem to ensure any unresolved neck trauma would not compromise testing for other areas of the body. (The neck should be clear of this issue before proceeding with the technique – at least for testing demonstration purposes. And anyone can do this on them self anyway. Good to do regularly just for the relief that brings to the neck.) This video is an excerpt from the first video of John Maguire’s “Structural Kinesiology” online course. https://kinesiologyinstitute.com/ The full video is able to be seen as a preview to the whole program at https://kinesiologyinstitute.com/stru... In the video, one way of demonstrating the need for injury recall was to lightly compress the talus bone in the ankle with a light force while testing. The difference between this and testing for shock absorber function in the ankle is that in injury recall, the area of the treatment must be contacted by the person. Keep in mind that any time you experience pain, that is in itself a trauma. This technique should be used with respect to where you have or are experiencing pain. The explanation of Injury Recall procedure in this video is very clear and treatment following this protocol is complete. However, there are two additional techniques that can also be incorporated into this procedure. These are demonstrated in the video on “Injury Recall” by Dr Sheldon Deal and explained in the notes accompanying it. To the patient, the treatment for injury recall seems too simple to actually do anything. However, it often produces a surprisingly strong therapeutic response. Background The nervous system records and maintains the memory of all the events that have happened in one’s lifetime as an encoded memory. To any injury in any tissue of the body (including surgery, injection sites and some dental procedures) there is there is an immediate adaptive response in the nervous system, which acts like a firewall to prevent further damage. The body then places a high priority on its healing, initiating appropriate chemical and neurological processes. During this phase, the injured tissue will be in a state of reduced function and will likely be painful or sensitive to touch. That is because the sensory nerves located around and within the tissue are on high alert. This state reminds the rest of the body that this area is under repair. Ideally, the adaptive neural pathways associated with trauma should, after healing, reset to their pre-injury state. In practice, this does not happen. Simply put, the body “remembers” significant injuries (falls, surgeries, breaks etc.) and stores this information. Although the body may have healed the injury, the memory of it creates a pattern within the brain to “guard” it, as if though it were still to some degree present. The simple technique of Injury Recall eliminates this “guarding”, even years after the event occurred. This restores limitations to range of motion, pain syndromes, and body function. Phenomenal things occur when old injuries, breaks, sprains and scars are addressed. The injury can be just a couple of minutes old (as for example, just after you have had a vaccination) several hours old - after you may have bumped yourself or after some dentistry work - it doesn't matter. Dr Deal explains this and responds to other questions when he introduces and demonstrates the technique.    • Injury Recall Dr Sheldon Deal with Q and A...
