I Upgraded a $60 Guitar Kit Into a Guitar I Actually Love!

After building the Ktaxon K170 guitar kit completely stock, I wanted to see just how good this inexpensive guitar could become with a proper setup and a few carefully chosen improvements. In this video I walk through every modification I made to dramatically improve the guitar's playability, feel, and appearance. Upgrades include: • Installing higher gauge strings • Rebalancing the tremolo by adjusting the spring claw • Lowering the nut slots with nut slotting files • Adding fret fall-away above the 12th fret • Re-crowning the frets • Dressing and polishing all fret ends • Applying three coats of oil-based polyurethane to the body • Conditioning the neck and headstock with Howard Feed-N-Wax • Demonstrating the finished guitar with several lead guitar licks Considering this guitar kit cost only about $60, I was genuinely surprised by how much these upgrades transformed it into an instrument that feels far more expensive.
