Two new hornpipes from my shed
... and they are ... Wm. Irwin's Modal Hornpipe and my own tune, the Ironing Board Hornpipe. William Irwin was a fiddler from the Lake District and his manuscript book can be found on the Village Music Project website at https://www.village-music-project.org.uk along with many other great resources for finding English tunes. This tune was originally in Bb, not G which I have transposed it to - and it is simply titled "Modal Hornpipe". I named the Ironing Board Hornpipe after the time when my daughter was just about to go to her first day in primary school. Feeling proud, I thought I would iron her uniform so she could look super-smart on the first day ... I got out the ironing board just as she was coming down to breakfast .... she exclaimed "Daddy, what's THAT???" ... this tune was named to remind me to iron more often than every five years! The Ironing Board Hornpipe is in my tunebook, along with 58 others, and you can buy it from my little web shop: https://johnspiers.co.uk/shop Please like and subscribe if you enjoy this content I'm putting out. Cheers!
