To contact the author of the video, please email me at [email protected] On the last day of my trip to Vorkuta, I visited a very strange high-rise building. Vorkuta is truly a city of contrasts: the beautiful Community Center and Palace of Creativity, and then this dreadful apartment building. Many people here call it the "Pentagon." As I understand it, everyone in Vorkuta knows this building, but I saw it by chance; I knew nothing about it before arriving in Vorkuta. A big thank you to the resident of the "Pentagon" for showing me the inside of this unusual building. How long this structure will remain in this state is unknown. Immediately after visiting the "Pentagon," I thought about how many more similar buildings there are somewhere in the Russian hinterland, about which we know little. And the buildings themselves aren't really that important; the people who live in these conditions today are far more important. They all have their own life stories, their own personal choices they made, and many of them continue to make those choices today.
