Finishing the Job with Penny! | Smoothing Swales & Improving Water Flow | John Deere 1025R

Not every tractor project is about digging something new. Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from finishing what you’ve already started. In today’s project, Penny and I spent time cleaning up and refining areas that had been left rough from previous excavation work. Using the front bucket on my John Deere 1025R, I smoothed the excess dirt left behind after digging the backyard swales and then moved over to the trails to level a dirt pile that had been created during another water-management project. That dirt originally came from a basin designed to temporarily hold rainwater and help move runoff away from the trails. Today’s goal was to finish the project by spreading and grading the remaining soil so the entire area blends naturally into the landscape. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that good land management isn’t just about moving dirt—it’s about shaping the land so water works with you instead of against you. Every pass with the bucket gets the property one step closer to the long-term vision. This wasn’t a flashy project, but it was an important one. Sometimes the most satisfying work is taking a rough area and making it look like it has always belonged there. Thank you for following along as Penny continues helping transform this property, one project at a time.
