This documentary tells the story of how, more than ever, Americans need local business to help their communities thrive – and equally important — survive hard times. This gripping documentary follows former NBC correspondent Hanson Hosein as he takes to regional roads on a drive to New Orleans, investigating the heartbreaking story of post-Hurricane Katrina. A city once known for its vibrant, independent retail businesses prior to the disaster, New Orleans had to lean on the Mom & Pop to lead the way to recovery. To date, only a third of businesses have reopened, and in poorer neighborhoods, less than half have recovered. This shortage of services and retail infrastructure is contributing to the city’s sinking population, projected to only be three-quarters of what it was before the devastating hurricane Katrina.
