“Vice President” Charles Bey: How the Black P. Stone Kingpin Broke Chicago’s Justice System
Charles Edward Bey, known as the “Vice President” of the Black P. Stone Nation, spent decades at the center of Chicago’s gang wars. Accused of ordering the 1970 ambush that killed Chicago Police Officer James Alfano Jr., Bey stood trial alongside six other Black P. Stone members—and every defendant walked free. This documentary follows the rise of Charles Bey, the Black P. Stone Nation, Jeff Fort, the Main 21, the federal anti-poverty scandal, the murder trial that shocked Chicago, the assassination attempt on Bey, the killing of Willie “Flukey” Stokes, and the legend of a man many believed the law could never stop. Based on court records, FBI files, Senate hearings, contemporary reporting, and historical sources, this is the story of how power, fear, and myth shaped Chicago’s South Side for more than four decades.
