Lake Powell's Biggest PROBLEM Isn't What You Think

I compare old Lake Powell photos from when the water was much higher with what the lake looks like today around Wahweap, Lone Rock, Stateline, and Antelope Point. The south end of Lake Powell tells the whole story: the water moved, the shoreline changed, ramps became harder to use, and now the National Park Service is planning major upgrades to keep this area working at lower lake levels. This is not just another Lake Powell water level update. This is a before and after look at how Lake Powell has changed over time, and why NPS is spending millions on projects like the Wahweap and Lone Rock utility rehabilitation, the Antelope Point Public Ramp extension, government dock upgrades, and other infrastructure improvements around Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Lake Powell is still beautiful. It is still open. But the old version of Lake Powell, the one many people remember from old photos, full marinas, easy boat access, and high water is fading. The question now is not just whether the water will come back. The bigger question is whether Lake Powell can still work if lower water becomes the new normal.
