RV Shore Cord Myth: Busted?

Can you safely leave your RV shore power cord coiled? It’s one of the most common pieces of advice RV owners hear: “Never leave your shore cord coiled because it’ll overheat.” But is that actually true? Instead of relying on internet myths, I decided to test it. Using a heavy electrical load with an RV air conditioner, electric fireplace, and converter running, I measured temperatures all along the shore cord before and after tightly coiling it. This time the test was done in a climate-controlled shop to eliminate the biggest variable from my original experiment several years ago—the sun.
