We begin our stroll through the old town on Corso Umberto I, near Piazza Matteotti, which is essentially where the bus stop is located. Here, a terrace with a belvedere offers our first fabulous view of the marina and the surrounding landscape, including the majolica dome of the Church of San Giovanni Battista, visible from numerous vantage points and famous throughout the world. The town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Nestled on a hill overlooking the azure Tyrrhenian Sea, Vietri sul Mare is a little gem of colorful houses, alleys, and shops. It is known as the "first pearl of the Amalfi Coast" due to its location: it is, in fact, the first village on this stretch of the Campania coast, coming from Salerno. Here you can spend a pleasant time browsing the ceramic shops—a source of pride for which Vietri sul Mare is renowned—souvenir shops, bars, pastry shops, and restaurants. You'll quickly begin to discover what to buy as a memento of your vacation and day trip. Lemons, a quintessential product of the Amalfi Coast, are a must. Lose yourself among the village's alleyways, stairways, narrow streets, and small neighborhoods with unique clusters of houses, such as the "Rione Casilette," with houses attached to one another. You'll be fascinated by the intertwining houses and arches, as well as the majolica tiles and ceramics found practically everywhere. Returning to Corso Umberto I, continue on foot along the main shopping street until you reach the "Fabbrica di Ceramiche Solimene," where you'll notice the volumetric strength of the over sixteen thousand colored clay vases that enclose the entire structure. The best way to discover this town is to stroll through the colorful streets of the historic center and visit the ceramic workshops where meticulous artisans create wonderful creations every day. This is without forgetting the culinary tradition, whose most famous dishes include anchovies, Gragnano paccheri, seafood scialatielli, and excellent wood-fired pizza. You can head to the sea at Marina di Vietri, stroll along the seafront (Via Cristoforo Colombo), and admire the spectacular landscape of the rocks (small sea stacks) known as "The Two Brothers." These two virtually identical rocks, a symbol of the town, emerge from the water side by side. Legend has it that two shepherds saw a mysterious girl swimming... Suddenly, a strong storm arose, and the two boys jumped into the water in an attempt to save the girl. The two shepherds died, while the girl, who was actually the nymph Rhoda, daughter of Poseidon, God of the Sea, survived. Surprised by the courageous gesture of the two young people, Poseidon decided to transform their bodies into two rocks so that they could forever watch over the sea. Photos of this place often make the rounds on social media profiles like Instagram and Facebook, as the colorful alley is truly evocative. At the end of the historic center of Vietri sul Mare, a few steps from the Ceramica Solimene factory, is the Villa Comunale. Like the park in Barcellona, ​​it is characterized by soft, sinuous lines. In this corner of the city, the walls, avenues, fountains, and handrails of the paths overlooking the sea are entirely decorated with Vietri ceramics. Inside the park, you'll also find an amphitheater that hosts numerous events and concerts, such as Vietri in Scena, the concert series held in July.
