Eagles Nest Loop | Mt Charleston Wilderness | Spring Mountains, Nevada
Eagles Nest Loop | Mt Charleston Wilderness | Spring Mountains, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/eagles... | Eagle’s Nest Loop is a 2.7-mile wide-open trail with spectacular views up and down Kyle Canyon from Charleston and Lee Peaks up-canyon to the West to The La Madre Mountains down-canyon to the East. The loop has the feeling of being in a mountain meadow with abundant wildflowers in the Spring. Summer and Winter would be a different story with extreme hot and cold temperatures. Entrance to Eagle’s Nest Loop is about a quarter mile up The Fletcher Canyon Trail from that trailhead’s location below Charleston Village. There is parking for about 20 cars at and near the trailhead along with primitive restroom facilities. Though maps seem to indicate there are alternate entrances to the loop (one from Deer Creek Road, another from Kyle Canyon Road below the Fletcher Canyon Trailhead), I was not able to locate any loop entrances other than the entrance mentioned above from The Fletcher Canyon Trail. I like taking the loop in a counterclockwise direction as that gets the moderate elevation gain out of the way early in the loop leaving the majority of the loop mostly downhill. In addition, during the return stretch you’re facing upward into Kyle Canyon with its spectacular view of the canyon’s South rim. The loop offers great variety by taking you through two distinct climate zones: An upper forested zone and a lower meadow-like floral zone. In addition to the wilderness experience, the loop would make a great conditioning ground as a trail-running course. The elevation, around 7,000ft, is good altitude conditioning if you’ve spent the previous Winter months below 4,000ft in Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, the Las Vegas Valley and other similar regions. If your intent is to do the 11,928ft Mt. Charleston Loop in the coming weeks or months, Eagle’s Nest Loop is a great starting point for altitude conditioning. And, as mentioned, the views along the loop are spectacular including The Sheep Range, La Madre Mountains, Harris Mountain, Griffith Peak, Charleston Peak, Lee Peak and the foothill cliffs South of Fletcher Peak.
