Hymn Tune "Agnes" by Edward Bunnett (1834 - 1923)
Edward was the husband of Emma Elizabeth McGowan (married 1890). He was a chorister at Norwich Cathedral starting in 1842. In 1849, he began studying the organ, articled to Zechariah Buck. He was Buck’s assistant organist 1855–77. He graduated from Cambridge University (MusB 1857, MusD 1869), and in 1870 became a Fellow in the College of Organists. He served as organist first at St. Peter’s Mancroft; then as Borough Organist (1880); and played at the Lowestoft Pier Concerts that began in 1890. He conducted the Norwich Musical Union, and played the organ at the Norwich Musical Festival for over two decades, starting in 1872. In the 1849 festival, he, Jenny Lind and a Miss Dolby together sang Lift Up Thine Eyes. Works Bunnett composed cantatas, anthems, carols, organ pieces and two dozen hymn tunes. Sources
