„Da steigt bald weißer Rauch auf“: So weit ist der DFB mit Klopp und wer ins WM-Finale einzieht
"White smoke will soon rise": How far along is the DFB with Klopp and who will reach the World Cup final? Jürgen Klopp and the DFB are getting closer to a collaboration; it could soon be announced that the Head of Global Soccer at RB Leipzig will be the new national team coach and successor to Julian Nagelsmann. We speak with DFB reporter Matthias Dersch about the talks and look ahead to the semi-finals France vs. Spain and England vs. Argentina with our World Cup expert Nils Petersen and kicker reporter Thomas Hiete. Following the basic agreement between the DFB and Jürgen Klopp, crucial talks with the current employer of the preferred candidate for national team coach are scheduled for this week. The issue of Klopp becoming a brand ambassador doesn't even need to be discussed. The biggest hurdle in the search for a new national team coach has been cleared: The DFB leadership, headed by Bernd Neuendorf and Hans-Joachim Watzke, reached an agreement with their preferred candidate, Jürgen Klopp, on key aspects of a potential contract, as the association announced on Saturday. Following the approximately four-hour meeting at a hotel near John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, both sides expressed confidence, according to the official statement, that the negotiations – subject to an agreement with Klopp's current employer, Red Bull – can ultimately be successfully concluded. DFB meets with Mintzlaff on Tuesday The details of this agreement will be revealed in the talks scheduled for the coming weeks. On Tuesday, the DFB leadership will meet with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff to discuss an early termination option for Klopp, whose contract as Head of Global Soccer within the company's football empire runs until 2029. Since the contract contains no release clause, Klopp and the DFB are dependent on Mintzlaff's cooperation. Mintzlaff, who has always been solution-oriented in the past, will not let his football boss's desired marriage with the struggling association break up, but will likely seek a creative agreement. In recent days, a theory has taken on a life of its own, without any concrete sources, that Klopp would be allowed to join the DFB on a free transfer, but in return would remain with the beverage company as a brand ambassador. Critics such as former DFB president Theo Zwanziger and representatives of some regional associations promptly weighed in with their statements. Much ado about nothing, because according to kicker, such a scenario was never part of the global company's strategy, nor is a transfer fee the central consideration. It is conceivable, however, that Klopp, outside of his not always time-consuming life as national team coach, could occasionally make his expertise available to the company's extensive sports division. Especially in areas that Klopp has significantly advanced during his year and a half in charge. Contract until the 2030 World Cup An important meeting in this regard is scheduled for the end of the week in New York, when Mintzlaff travels to the World Cup final and meets with Klopp there. Klopp is expected to receive a contract with the DFB (German Football Association) until the 2030 World Cup and, like his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann, will earn around seven million euros per year. However, he is to be given significantly more responsibilities. He is bringing his long-time assistant coaches, Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders, with him to the DFB. Krawietz is currently also employed by Red Bull, while Lijnders was most recently Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City. Nagelsmann resigned after Germany's World Cup exit against Paraguay, following pressure from the DFB leadership. His assistants Alfred Schreuder, Benjamin Glück, Benjamin Hübner, and Bram Geers also left the club. Goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg and Standard Liège coach Mads Buttgereit are expected to stay on, according to current information. Klopp's debut would be the Nations League opener on September 24 against hosts the Netherlands, who, following their equally disappointing World Cup exit in the first knockout round against Morocco and the resignation of Ronald Koeman, are also currently without a coach. This would be followed by two home games: on September 27 in Augsburg against Greece and on October 1 in Munich against Serbia. ► Subscribe to the channel so you don't miss any more videos! ``` Follow us on our other social media channels: ► Instagram: / kicker ► Facebook: / kickeronline ► Twitter: / kicker_bl_li ► TikTok: https://tiktok.com/kicker Our offers: ► kicker App for iOS and Android: https://hyperurl.co/kickerapp ► Website: https://www.kicker.de ► kicker eSport: https://esport.kicker.de
